The curtain fell on the opening act of the David Moyes Manchester United era with a win that sent the sold-out Hong Kong Stadium painted red for the night away happy and the club straight to their flight home with the right result to close this three-week marathon tour.
The scoreline will have pleased Moyes, yet the way his side fell asleep following half-time may concern him. Between now and the season's opening day trip to Swansea City there are only two more serious warm-ups - AIK on 6 August and Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield five days later - for United to reach optimum sharpness.
Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling and Fabio all registered before the break in a stanza run by Anderson and decorated with flashes of artistry by the promising Wilfried Zaha, before Adnan Januzaj then Jess Lingard scored in the second half.
The humid evening did not seem to affect Moyes's side as others have during matches elsewhere on the trip, a result of the fitness his players continue to gather.
Anderson, the perennial new-season hope of the United faithful, was the midfield pivot who also made buccaneering runs at goal, while Zaha's pace, and his natural inclination to drift into the area whenever play shifted away from him, nearly yielded the former Palace man a goal. There was one glaring miss from this position in the first half when, having brought the ball down neatly he blasted the close-range attempt wildly.
United's opener arrived when Ashley Young's shot pinged back off Wang Zhepang's right post and Welbeck slotted home. Young was involved again when his side went two up. His attempt was repelled for a corner and when the same player passed the ball short to Tom Cleverley, the midfielder swept in an inviting cross, to which Smalling rose to head home a finish any striker would boast about.
The third resulted from a smooth move that began when Michael Carrick lasered a 45-yard ball into the path of Welbeck. His cross was too long for Anderson but Zaha took possession and fed Fabio. The onrushing right-back booted home emphatically.
On the minus side during this period, there was the odd hint of the carelessness that would creep into United's play - allowing Kitchee two strikes after the break.
Christian Kwesi Annan made a mug of Smalling too easily down the left and when Alex Alkande scored Kitchee's second on 67 minutes, it was with a similar ease that he cut inside Buttner before smacking the finish beyond Ben Amos.
Before then, Buttner and Januzaj combined five minutes into the second period for the 18-year-old Belgian to head home a first of the trip and Lam Ka Wai belted a 25-yard barnburner past Amos.
United made sure when Jess Lingard danced into a central area and let fly to secure his fourth goal of the trip.
