Somerset swimming sensation Charlie Attwood is hoping to bring home medals from the European Youth Olympic Festival, which is taking place in the Dutch city of Utrecht from July 14-18.
The 15-year-old from Bridgwater - the fastest UK schoolboy in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke - is sponsored by Somerset sports charity TS5C as part of its remit to build on the legacy of London 2012.
Alan Gloak, founder of TS5C, recently presented the young sports person of the year award to Attwood at the Somerset Sports Awards.
He said: 'We are delighted for Charlie and genuinely proud that we have been able to support him.
'The costs of training, specialist equipment and attending competitions are daunting for any family but, if a young person is to achieve their full potential in their sport, they are essential. TS5C grants make an important contribution in meeting these costs.'
Attwood, who is breaking records almost on a monthly basis in the swimming pool, acknowledged the part played by TS5C in his ongoing success.
'It would have put a considerable amount of pressure on my parents without the annual grant,' he said.
'There are so many incidental costs associated with competing - even down to my swimming gear. I need new swimwear about four times a year.
'In addition to the financial benefit, I'm also really grateful for Alan's belief in me. He has been so supportive.'
Gloak first spotted Attwood's potential two years ago and put him forward to the charity as a promising athlete who he felt should receive funding.
'Mark my words - Charlie is Somerset's Tom Daley,' he said. 'We wish him all the best in Utrecht - he's one to watch!'
