USA Basketball is on the move.
The governing body for men's and women's basketball in the USA will relocate to Tempe, Ariz., from Colorado Springs, Colo., in the fall of 2015.
The $350 million development project is a major upgrade to its current facilities and will include USA Basketball headquarters, training center, a 4,500-seat multi-purpose arena with multiple basketball courts, a 330-room hotel, 30,000 square feet conference center, 500 apartments and retail and office space totaling 360,000 square feet.
The U.S. men's national team will continue to hold its camps in Las Vegas.
The 10.5-acre site is located next to Arizona State's campus and is owned by the university. The complex will be called USA Place. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin later this year.
"This is an exciting and an incredible opportunity that offers nothing but positives for USA Basketball," USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said in a statement. "USA Place will offer USA Basketball an excellent site for the development of its office headquarters, a training center and event center that will provide the organization with a first-class site for hosting junior level events and will allow USA Basketball to continue to evolve.
"The new USA Basketball headquarters and training center will be first-class, state of art facilities, something I know we will be very proud of."
The complex will be used for USA Basketball training and competitive events, and the Arizona Interscholastic Association plans to use the arena for season-ending tournaments in boys' and girls' basketball, volleyball, wrestling, badminton and spiritlines.
