It is just 67 days since Kevin Phillips brought the curtain down on the 2012-13 Football League season by scoring the penalty that gave Crystal Palace promotion to the Premier League - but for fans around the country Friday night's 2013-14 opener cannot come soon enough.
This close season may have been livened up by seeing a British man finally win Wimbledon again, the British & Irish Lions triumph in Australia, a second successive British triumph in the Tour de France and England seemingly en route to another Ashes win - but for many the main event of the summer is just about to start.
This year sees the Football League mark its 125th anniversary, and one of the founder members, Notts County, get the season up and running on Friday night when they travel to take on Sheffield United in League One.
There is live radio commentary of that match on BBC Radio Nottingham, and there will be a match report on the BBC Sport website.
The season then starts in earnest on Saturday and there will be live text commentary on the BBC Sport website bringing you all the key incidents, goals and reaction from across the three divisions.
The day's action begins in the Championship, where north west rivals Burnley and Bolton clash in a lunchtime kick-off.
You can hear full live commentary of that game from 12:15 BST on Saturday on BBC Radio 5 live, with 5 live staying with the Championship action until 17:00 BST.
You can also follow the results as they come in on Final Score, which is live on BBC One, BBC One HD and the BBC Sport website from 16:25 BST.
In the 15:00 BST kick-offs, Harry Redknapp's relegated QPR welcome Sheffield Wednesday while Wigan head to Barnsley and the third demoted side Reading host Ipswich.
Newly promoted Yeovil are at Millwall and Leeds host Brighton.
In League One, the game of the day sees Preston welcome relegated Wolves, while in League Two Newport make their league return at home to Accrington and Portsmouth take on Oxford.
For a round-up of the day's goals, tune in to the Football League show on BBC One, BBC One HD and the BBC Sport website at 23:35 BST.
On Sunday, Derby play Blackburn in the only game of the afternoon. There will be a match report on the BBC Sport website and there is live radio commentary on BBC Radio 5 live.
