iPhones News Jonathan Rea: Considering switch to MotoGP
Superbikes star Jonathan Rea is considering moving to MotoGP next season.
The Northern Irishman, currently seventh in the World Superbikes championship race, will be out of contract with Ten Kate Honda at the end of the season.
And Rea, whose stock rose further by winning on home soil at Silverstone, admits that a move to MotoGP could be on the cards if he can agree a deal.
"Now that I'm out of contract for next year I have to look out for other opportunities and look at the positives and negatives of each opportunity that might come my way," the 26-year-old told the News Letter. "I have to see which one is the best for me as a ride."
He has raced once in MotoGP before, standing in for the injured Casey Stoner in 2012 and he admits he enjoyed the experience, however brief.
"I didn't really get time last year to soak it up and enjoy it because it felt like I had only arrived before I'd be leaving again and it came at the end of the Superbike season as well," he said.
"But it's a great paddock and they're nice people and very professional. It's a cool place and I don't know what my future holds right now but it would definitely be nice to be back there at some point in my career to see what I can do with a proper pre-season test programme and a full season.
"Right now there's a lot of things going on and my management is taking care of all that. I'm involved a little bit but it's too early to be talking about what's happening next year to be honest.
"I think leading up to the Brno MotoGP race and my next Superbike race at the Nurburgring I'll be more in a position to talk about it."
