iPhones News Roy Hodgson: Looking for friendly boost ahead of crucial qualifiers
England and Scotland will meet for the first time in 14 years when they go head-to-head at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.
Old rivalries will be rekindled in the English capital during a contest which forms part of the ongoing 150th anniversary celebrations of the Football Association.
The last meeting between the two nations came back in 1999, when England edged a two-legged play-off encounter 2-1 to reach Euro 2000.
Both sides enjoyed victories away from home during that tie - with a Paul Scholes brace seeing the Three Lions silence Hampden Park before a Don Hutchison header handed Scotland a memorable 1-0 win in the return date at the old Wembley.
That success remains their only one at the home of English football in their last five visits - with England's most famous triumph in recent times secured courtesy of Alan Shearer and Paul Gascoigne at Euro 96.
Gordon Strachan's side will, however, make the journey south in midweek confident they can claim another prized scalp, with their last 2014 World Cup qualifier seeing them inflict a rare home defeat on much-fancied Croatia.
With further fixtures on the road to Brazil to come for both sides in September and October, Strachan and his managerial counterpart Roy Hodgson will be determined to build momentum.
England have three crucial games at Wembley to come before the end of the year- against Moldova, Montenegro and Poland - so will want to get into the winning habit.
Scotland's dreams of reaching a first major international tournament since 1998 have already been dashed, but Strachan has helped them to turn the corner and positivity has been returned to their ranks.
England
Ashley Young has withdrawn from the England squad, with the Manchester United winger still suffering with an ankle problem which kept him out of Sunday's Community Shield win over Wigan Athletic.
The main question marks for England surround the fitness of Wayne Rooney and Jack Wilshere, with both looking like possible starters.
Rooney has been struggling with hamstring and shoulder injuries that have ruled him out of most of Manchester United's pre-season programme, but he has been involved in training this week and Hodgson has hinted that the striker could start.
Hodgson has promised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger that he will not play Wilshere for the whole 90 minutes on Wednesday, with it likely that he will make way at half-time.
Southampton striker Rickie Lambert will hope to have offered enough in training to force his way into contention for an international bow at the age of 31.
Scotland
Brighton midfielder Liam Bridcutt, who made his one and only Scotland appearance against Serbia in March and is suffering from a groin problem, is the only absentee from Strachan's original pool of 29 players.
With another 13 midfielders at his disposal, Strachan has not added to his larger than usual squad.
A host of regulars return after missing June's victory in Croatia, including Celtic captain Scott Brown and experienced striker Kenny Miller.
However, skipper Darren Fletcher, defender Gary Caldwell and striker Steven Fletcher remain sidelined for the Scots.
Brighton defender Gordon Greer and Dundee United forward Gary Mackay-Steven will be looking to earn their first caps at Wembley.
