Stoke striker Cameron Jerome has been fined £50,000, subject to appeal, and severely warned over future conduct, after admitting breaches of FA betting rules.
The 27-year-old was also warned as to his future conduct after admitting repeat breaches of the regulations. He has the right to appeal against the sanction.
A statement on the FA's website read: 'Stoke City's Cameron Jerome has been fined £50,000, subject to any appeal, following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.
'Jerome, who was also severely warned as to his future conduct, admitted a number of breaches of The FA's Betting Rules and requested a personal hearing which took place on Tuesday 13 August 2013.'
The 26-year-old, a former Birmingham and England under-21 international player, was charged with betting on a competition in which his team plays, which is contrary to FA regulations.
It is understood that there is no suggestion of any match-fixing allegations or that Jerome has gambled on games he has been involved in.
A Stoke City statement at the time of the charges last week said: 'Stoke City can confirm that Cameron Jerome accepts the FA charges made against him in relation to breaches of its betting rules.
'Cameron has admitted the charges and will in due course attend an Independent Regulatory Commission, at which he will be supported by the Club.
'The Club or the player will not be making any further comment at this time.'
In June, Tottenham midfielder Andros Townsend was fined £18,000 and banned for four months, three of those months suspended, for a breach of betting regulations.
The charges meant that he missed playing for England under-21s in the European Championships after he withdrew from the squad.
Stanley managing director Heys also charged with betting offences
Accrington Stanley's managing director Robert Heys has been charged with a number of betting offences by the Football Association.
The FA's rules prohibit players or officials betting on any matches in competitions with which their club is involved.
Heys, who has been at the League Two club for more than 10 years, has been charged with alleged breaches of FA rules in relation to a number of betting offences and has until August 9 to respond to the charges.
